Mowing & Irrigation Guidelines

Fertilizer and weed control are only part of the equation.

Proper irrigation and mowing determine how your lawn responds to nutrients. Most lawn performance issues we see are related to overwatering or mowing too short — not product.

Strong lawns are built through consistency.

Irrigation

The most common issue in South Jersey lawns is overwatering.

We recommend:

• Water 2–3 times per week
• Early morning between 4:00am–8:00am
• Approximately 0.3 inches per cycle

Typical runtimes:

• Rotor zones: 20–30 minutes
• Spray head zones: 10–15 minutes

Avoid daily watering. Deep, infrequent irrigation promotes stronger root systems and better drought tolerance.

Signs of overwatering include constantly damp soil, fungal patches, shallow roots, and increased weed pressure.

Mowing

Consistent mowing is just as important as proper watering.

We recommend:

• Weekly mowing during peak season
• Maintaining a 3–4 inch height
• Keeping mower blades sharp
• Alternating mowing directions

Weekly mowing produces thicker, healthier turf than biweekly cutting. Cutting too short stresses the lawn, reduces root depth, and increases weed pressure.

Bagging clippings provides the cleanest finish. If mulching, ensure clippings are not clumping or sitting heavily on the turf surface.

When fertilization, irrigation, and mowing work together, results are stronger, more consistent, and more resilient throughout the season.
